Labuan was an island situated to the north of Borneo, that the British tried to turn into a country similar to Singapore. Labuan later integrated with Sabah, and together with Sarawak, they integrated with Malaya to form Malaysia in 1963.

Labuan was later designated as a Federal Territory for economic and political reasons in the 1980s (think Kuala Lumpur).
