Children's Day in India celebrated annually on November 14th, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. He was known for his fondness for children and his vision for a nation that prioritized their education and well-being.
India Post has released several stamps, sheets, covers, brochures raising awareness about children’s rights, promoting child education, celebrating childhood, and highlighting issues. These stamps were initially based on photographs of children in candid poses, but later on India Post started organising Design a Stamp Competition for School children and the winning design is depicted on the Children’s Day stamps.
In the year of 1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1988, 1989 and 2014, stamps were not issued on the occasion of Children’s Day.
